Every specimen from Gem Surprise Box arrives with a Mineralgraphic™ Card filled with data specific to each specimen providing a fun educational opportunity to learn more about every item you collect through our company. We keep track of all of the gemstones and minerals you add to your collection through Gem Surprise Box to ensure that you or your recipient are truly surprised with something new month after month.

Who is behind Gem Surprise Box?

Gem Surprise Box was founded in 2020 and has served collectors across the world. We are a small family owned business founded by Gemological Institute of America and UCLA Alumni that has a strong focus on STEM education for all ages. Our goal is to introduce the world to the science of mineralogy, spark interest in the geosciences, and to share the wonders of our natural world one box at a time.

Gem Surprise Box was selected by the UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) Alumni Association to be featured in the 2022 Bruin Business 100 initiative. This professional achievement recognizes 100 exceptional UCLA alumni entrepreneurs who founded businesses that have inspired innovation and expanded the Bruin network in a way that positively impacted their community.

Gem Surprise Box was selected out of thousands of applicants to receive the 2022 Manifest Grant in partnership with Hello Alice and Alibaba. The grant was valued at $10,000 with an additional $5,000 of logistical support. Gem Surprise Box was also selected as a finalist for the Bonus Round of the Manifest Grant Program in 2023.

Where in the world is Gem Surprise Box?

Gem Surprise Box is located in Fallbrook, California, a semi-rural mountain community near the famous Pala Mining District once known for producing the finest Rubellite (Pink Tourmaline) in the world. We are directly west of the Elsinore and San Andreas Fault lines near Camp Pendleton. Our local mountains are also known for producing gem quality Kunzite (Pink Spodumene) and Morganite (Pink Beryl) in addition to a plethora of other amazing minerals, many rich in lithium.
